MURFREESBORO, TN – Game 2 of the Middle Tennessee Football Classic didn’t go much better for the hosts than the first game.
Just as Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, AL) had thrashed Blackman (Murfreesboro, TN) 38-7 in the first game, the Hoover (AL) Buccaneers were never seriously challenged by the hometown Oakland (Murfreesboro, TN) Patriots in a 24-6 win.
Clay-Chalkville is the defending Class 6A champion in Alabama while Hoover is the defending Class 7A champions. The games did little to settle the debate of which team is truly the best in Alabama, but on this date on the same field – which is as close as these two teams will come this year – it was Clay-Chalkville that looked like the better of the two.
As for the two Murfreesboro schools, both lost a lot of FBS talent to graduation this spring, and the early game against two of Alabama’s best programs revealed there is plenty of work to be done at both schools.
